Johanna Naukkarinen: Sarjasta Lying Down
The series is part of an exhibition investigating 18th-century female figures in medical wax models, known as anatomical Venuses. Anatomical Venuses were originally modelled on the Venus figures familiar from nude paintings, and this series playfully creates new anatomical Venuses from various female imagery, including nude paintings and pin-up illustrations. Through digital collages, it examines recurring poses in representations of women that transcend artistic boundaries and enter the realm of science.
