The work is part of the series Landscape Longs for Unity / Maisema kaipaa omiaan (2022), which explores landscape, nature, and femininity, as well as the relationships between them. The series consists of photographic prints on various materials, fabric prints, and stone sculptures, guiding the viewer to the encounters that emerge between landscapes and performative gestures.
About the artist
Kaisa Karhu (b. 1984, Jyväskylä) is a Helsinki-based photographic artist whose practice combines performative actions with photography. Through a personal approach, Karhu explores themes of femininity, landscape, and the subordinate history of women as image-makers of nature. Her previous solo exhibitions include Galleria Rajatila in Tampere (2022) and Photographic Gallery Hippolyte in Helsinki (2021). Karhu graduated with a Master of Arts in Photography from the Aalto University in 2017, and her works are included in, among others, the Finnish State Art Collection.
