Sofie Jokinen: Meanders 1
The series title Meanders of Time refers to a winding river and to time itself. The photographs capture river landscapes from the vantage point of a boat by combining multiple images. The movement of flowing water — both the place of photographing and its subject — is brought to a standstill in the images. The pictures are constructed from different seasons, which highlights their tense relationship with time and with the evidential value often attributed to photography. Through a technique that contains several layers of time, Jokinen manages to reach something that goes beyond conventional modes of representation. The layering of different temporalities makes the images and observations transparent, both theoretically and visually.
