The photograph is part of an extensive series depicting Finland’s national landscapes, which the photographer captured between 2000 and 2002. Images from the series have been used in their book The Finnish National Landscape and exhibited in Finland and France.
It was photographed with a view camera on colour sheet film and printed by the photographer in 2003.

About the artist
Tapio Heikkilä (b. 1958) is a Helsinki-based photographer and non-fiction author; biologist and Doctor of Arts. As Environmental Counsellor at the Ministry of the Environment (1986–2023), he was responsible for issues related to landscape protection and management. He completed his doctoral dissertation on methods in landscape photography at the University of Art and Design Helsinki (now Aalto University) in 2007. Heikkilä has held dozens of photographic exhibitions in Finland and abroad, starting with Kulttuuri maisemassa at Laterna Magica (January 1995), and later at venues including the National Museum of Iceland. He has published several informational and photographic works as well as other publications. Awards include the State Award for Public Information and two Nature Book of the Year awards.
