Verna Kovanen: Path, Grey edition

The work Path is part of the Broken Holiday Album series, in which memories and experiences from travel intertwine into one. Photographer Verna Kovanen takes us on a beach holiday, encountering the shores of childhood memories through an adult perspective. The series guides the viewer along the coasts and resorts of the Mediterranean. At times, one is immersed in thought, gazing at the horizon; at other moments, attention is drawn to the walls of an unfinished hotel, weathered by time.

About the artist
Verna Kovanen (b. 1989) graduated with a Master of Arts from Aalto University in 2020. She works primarily with the camera, also incorporating printmaking techniques. Kovanen is best known for her photobooks Broken Holiday Album (2022) and Näkymättömät – tositarinoita lasten mielikuvitusystävistä (2016). The Broken Holiday Album book won the Kauneimmat kirjat 2022 (Most Beautiful Books 2022) competition. Kovanen’s work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions both in Finland and internationally. Her works are held in public collections such as those of the State of Finland, HUS, and the City of Pori, as well as in numerous private collections.
