The work belongs to the series Uppoutumisia (Immersions), which Hanén has been developing since 2023. The series is inspired by time spent in the garden and its plants. In her works, Hanén explores the meanings of shelter and protection, as well as the relationship between humans and nature. The works are realised using photography, photo-based printmaking, and techniques that combine photography with ceramics.

About the artist
Anni Hanén is a Helsinki-based visual artist who graduated with a Master of Arts in Photography from Aalto University in 2013. Her works have been widely exhibited in solo and group exhibitions as well as at photography festivals since 2004. Hanén’s practice explores personal and cultural connections to memory and nature, examining how these connections become intertwined with identity and the experience of time.
