About the artist
Mikael Siirilä (b. 1978) is a Helsinki-based darkroom artist. He learned the basics of printing as a child in his home darkroom. Mikael briefly studied theoretical philosophy and worked for over 20 years as an entrepreneur in the graphic arts before returning to his true passion.
He participated in his first group exhibitions in 2020–21. Since 2022, his group and solo exhibitions have taken place in Denmark, Spain, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Mikael’s photobook Here, in Absence was published in France. The book was a finalist for the Prix Nadar 2024 and received a special mention in the Finnish Photobook Award 2024.
