R.C. Snellman: Rune – My Time

A book presenting the works of photographer Rune Snellman (b. 1950) from 2015 to 2025. The book is titled Rune – My Time, as Snellman’s photographs are divided into different periods of his life. The first exhibition, Ajanlasku (“Chronology”), the second, Yö on lähtemisen aika (“Night Is the Time to Depart”), the third, Min tid (“My Time”), and so on.

His images are deeply personal, initially reflecting his experiences as a father, and later as a man. He has also processed life-changing illnesses through photography. The book includes a visual CV.

The photographs in the book span the time before and after the stroke he suffered in 2022. The period before focuses on Snellman’s two hometowns, Kokkola and Jyväskylä. The photographs taken afterward center on a time when his experience of time and of the surrounding world became condensed into moments, where movement is essential.

Movement appears as intensifying atmospheres, the experience of which is explored in an essay by art historian Teija Isohauta.
